SUMMARY:5th Annual Research Network Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Particle mixtures and advanced materials: from production and generation to environmental risk assessment\n\n\n\nWelcome to the 5th yearly workshop of the SweNanoSafe research network which will be organised on the 25th of November and will be held online. This workshop intends to inform on the newest scientific trends in nanosafety as well as to look forward on coming challenges. \nThis year\, the theme is “Particle mixtures and advanced materials: from production and generation to environmental risk assessment”. We will focus on 4 themes where we invite keynote speakers giving overview presentations that focus on the key questions below. \n1. Production and generation: what sort of products can we expect in the future? What are “advanced materials”? \n2. Measurement: Is it currently all possible to detect these materials\, particularly in an environmental monitoring context? What are the knowledge gaps? \n3. Exposure: What sort of changes do we need to environmental exposure models to predict their fate accurately? What are the knowledge gaps? \n4. Environmental hazard: What needs to be done differently relatively to “conventional” nanomaterials in terms of hazard assessments? \nThese presentations are then each followed by 4 parallel break-out groups where we will explore the issues raised by the keynote lectures in more detail during interactive discussions and align these with the needs of decision makers\, industry\, academia. Please indicate the issues you are interested in most as we can let the keynote lectures know that they need to focus on these. \nThe meeting will be held online but registration is required. You can register here. \n  \nAgenda: \n10.00 Welcome and introduction – Geert Cornelis\, SLU\, Bengt Fadeel\, KI\n10.10 – 10.50 Theme I: Production and generation\nSpeaker: Mikael Syväjärvi (Inst. SUMMARY:Computational toxicology webinar
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \n\n\nComputational toxicology is a field of science that uses in silico (computer-based) methodologies to predict potential adverse toxicological features and properties of chemicals. \nComputational toxicology is an emerging field that is gaining increasing scientific and regulatory acceptance. Computational toxicology provides methods and models for use in all disciplines of toxicology\, including regulatory\, academic\, clinical\, and industrial\, and will play an increasingly important role in safety evaluation and risk assessment. \nThe next webinar of the Computational Toxicology Specialty Section (CTSS) of the Society of Toxicology (SOT)\, runs under the title “CTSS—The Predictive Toxicogenomics Space (PTGS) Modeling Tool Captures Diverse Cellular and Organ Toxicity Mechanisms and Serves for In Vitro Model-Driven Prediction of Drug-Induced Liver Injury”\, on 27th April at 17:00h CEST. \n“Toxicogenomics” represents a steadily developing “Big Data” informatics analysis field. Increasing amounts of safety testing-derived gene expression data require interpretation related to existing knowledge for characterizing hazard and risks coupled to agents such as drugs\, chemicals and nanomaterials. We have elucidated toxicity mechanisms from embracing the network character of systems biology as well as the complementary linear analysis scheme characteristic of the adverse outcome pathway (AOP) concept. An “artificial intelligence”-derived 14 gene component-based “predictive toxicogenomics space (PTGS)” tool generates toxicity estimates intrinsic to omics-data via broad coverage of toxicity reactions and mechanisms. The tool enables application of in vitro data to assess tissue injury in multiple organs of experimental animals subjected to repeated-dose toxicity bioassays\, including the accurate prediction of human drug-induced liver injury. \nPTGS/omics-driven Mode-of-Action and adverse outcome pathway analyses serve for grouping and hazard characterization of nanomaterial products. Although the lecture has its focus on drug molecules\, it is conceptually relevant also for SABYDOMA work. Roland Grafström will among several matters review chemical space coverage\, Big Data and explainable Artificial Intelligence. The lecture captures an important part of the cell line testing concepts by partner MISVIK. Also\, PTGS serves as a successful example of utilizing Key Exploitable Results (KER) for generation of hazard-testing relevant IPR. \nProfessor Roland Grafström\, from SABYDOMA partner Misvik Biology\, is giving on April 27\, 17:00h CEST an invited open lecture with the Society of Toxicology\, Computational Toxicology Specialty Section (CTSS). The presentation is about the PTGS concept and its application to DILI prediction. \n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space]\n REGISTER HERE\n [/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:NanoCommons SbD workshop
DESCRIPTION:The H2020 research e-infrastructure project NanoCommons is fostering collaborative research by trying to bring the nanosafety community together to work hands-on on the establishment of ways to make data and software platforms\, developed in the different projects\, to talk to each other. In order to give this a major push\, we are now organising a workshop where\, first\, different organisations\, that have already applied for Transnational Access projects with NanoCommons\, will report about their experiences. This will be followed by presentations on how the learnings from these projects resulted in collaboration and interoperability concepts\, which could be extended to span across different tools and platforms\, and on the upcoming training activities of NanoCommons and other possible follow-ups to this workshop. \nThis workshop will showcase how NanoCommons could support all of you\, individually and as a group\, as independent data harmoniser\, platform harmoniser (e.g. through joint APIs\, containerisation solutions\, etc.) and overall data/metadata consultant not creating new tools or replacing existing solutions but to bring all these closer together so that they can be combined into integrated workflows. This could be based on common metadata and data standards\, linking of data warehouses\, workflow tools (KNIME\, Jupyter) and deployment options to combine different services with complementary features. This could also be supplemented by ways of collaborative dissemination of the results from the projects and knowledge sharing like common service catalogues\, training and knowledge platforms and the shared usage of applications like electronic lab notebooks. These are just some first thought-starters but of course we are open to hearing your needs and even more important things you could / would like to bring in. \nNanoCommons would like to listen to your goals and approaches. To understand how this could be best achieved\, please register here for the open virtual workshop on November 9th (10:00 – 13:00h CET). Feel free to circulate this invitation within your networks to catch as many interested parties as possible.
